While this section is being built, why not contemplate these two pictures of utopia: from Wadi Qelt, a monastery near Jericho in Israel, where monks (as you can see) make a serious effort to withdraw from the world; and from the laboratory building in the early 19th-century socialist community of New Harmony, Indiana, where David Dale Owen assembled the largest collection of natural-history artifacts west of the Allegheny River.
